Story & Photography TipsThe story is 50% of the judging of the contest this year. Your story should captivate the hearts of the judges and the readers. Most of these machines are restored with blood, sweat, and tears and that makes for a great story. We love to hear about the successes of your restoration project whether large or small. That is what keeps viewers coming back for more. We are considering a vertical image for the cover of our 2012 catalog, so try out some of these vertical shots and see how it makes your tractor look! When taking a photograph there are many things you can do to change the look or enhance the image. There is no set rule making any of these right or wrong these are just a few ideas to think about before snapping the shutter. Here are just a few tips, try some out.Instead of a straight on picture try getting down low to the ground for a different look.
Be aware of your surroundings. Sometimes just moving a few feet over or even turning your body a little can change the look of your image.
Watch for lighting issues. Even on a bright and sunny day you may need the help of some fill light from a flash or reflector to compensate for shadows.
You do not need to center your subject within the frame. By using the rule of 2/3rds you can offset your subject from the center of the image and make a more interesting composition.
Turn your camera. Take one shot vertical and one horizontal, just the difference in turning the camera can sometimes make a more appealing picture depending on your audience.
